Appledore Gallery is a small independent art gallery specialising in modern and contemporary paintings. Located within a charming historic house in one of the many picturesque narrow streets of the ancient maritime village of Appledore, North Devon, the site has been a gallery for over twenty years.

Recently refurbished by its new owner, herself a practicing artist, the Gallery aims to show our visitors an exciting range of contemporary art in a friendly, domestic setting. By providing a welcoming environment we encourage browsers and hope they can visualise the paintings in their own homes. We are definitely not one of those unapproachable, elitist, white cube galleries!

Appledore is located in the heart of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its dramatic cliffs and beautiful, unspoilt beaches. An inspiring place for painters to live and work. Appledore is fast becoming a Mecca for artists and art lovers alike to enjoy the fruits of their labours.

We have many galleries and open studios and for the past thirteen years Appledore has hosted its own annual Visual Arts Festival, attracting local, national and international visitors. Take a look at the website to see some of the many events available for all the family. 

Our Artists

While displaying an eclectic mix of artistic styles all our artists have a link with the local Devon area, whether by birth or relocation. We have a number of regular artists, whose work may be reviewed by selecting the various artist names to the left of your screen. In addition we host temporary exhibitions by different art groups and individuals, including professionals and amateur artists, and a selection of these may be seen by browsing the brochure below.

Please note that, while every attempt has been made here to reproduce the work to the best possible standard, viewing art work on a computer screen is no substitute for seeing the real thing. For this reason we discourage distance buying and urge you to visit Appledore Gallery in person. A warm welcome awaits you!

We are happy to accommodate children and well behaved dogs (but no dogs upstairs please).
